As an alternative to fast fashion, there are several more sustainable methods to shop. Sustainable fashion work hard to reduce their environmental impact, create more than adequate working conditions, while still providing cutting edge fashion to the consumer. 

Secondhand/Vintage:

Worn Wear By Patagonia: This is run by Patagonia where people can buy secondhand Patagonia products that have been cleaned and restored. These products are sold at a lower price. 

ThredUp: This company prides themselves on being the largest online consignment and thrift store. Anyone can create an account to post used clothing and anyone can buy them. 

Poshmark: Poshmark is similar to ThredUp, users can post unwanted clothing for others to purchase.

 

Local Salvation Army: When you donate goods to The Salvation Army, all donation proceeds are used to fund our Adult Rehabilitation Centers. 

On-Demand/Custom-Made:

CitizenWolfThis brand creates custom-made t-shirts and long sleeve shirts in any color.

Dressarte: Based in Paris, Dressarte creates custom-made casual clothing along with evening/wedding wear. 

Tailor Store:This company sells casual clothing with the option of creating tailor-fit suits and casual clothing items.

 

YouTube DIY: You can follow some of the influencers that have creative ways to turn your old clothes to a new trend.

Rent, Lease, Swap: 

Rent the RunwayThis website has rentable clothing that spans casual to dressy/evening wear. They offer designer clothing at discounted rental prices. 

Style Lend: For an inexpensive monthly fee, members can rent designer products for fancy occasions instead of buying. 

Fashion to Figure: For a monthly fee, users can rent three items at a time and repeat this as much as they want. This brand is exclusively for larger/plus sizes. 

Repair, Redesign, Upcycle:

Blonde Gone Rogue: This company uses leftover fabric from large production factories and upcycles them into new clothing they sell. 

Urban Renewal: This is a brand by Urban Outfitters. They take surplus fabric or other products they cannot sell and create new pieces. This brand features a lot of patchwork designs to show the various fabrics they save.

 

Fabric for Freedom: This clothing company, unlike fast fashion, only releases on collection each year. This brand focuses on reusing old pieces into newly designed clothing items. 

Fair and Ethical: 

Ten Tree: This brand uses ethically sourced materials for their clothing. For each purchase, the company plants 10 trees and has planted over 42 million trees so far. 

ABLEThis company is based internationally where the workers are mostly women and they are paid fair wages. 

Alternative ApparelThis brand uses recycled fabric for their materials while ensuring safe working conditions and fair wages for the workers. 

Green/Clean: 

RubyMoon: This brand collects old fishing nets and other plastics that are in, or would end up the ocean. They turn these materials into swimwear and activewear. 

Organic Basics: This clothing brand sells undergarments and other accessories made with organic cotton. They are eco-certified and use solar and wind energy in their production. 

The Reformation: The Reformation company focuses on carbon-neutral practices, recycling fabric, sourcing sustainable materials, and using "green" facilities.
